A standard fee agreement

Fees are agreed by mutual consent, in accordance with Law No. 2015-990 of 6 August 2015. A fee agreement is systematically drawn up between the solicitor and their client as soon as the case is taken on. This agreement sets out the billing arrangements, the services covered and the financial terms of the engagement.

Billing on a time-spent basis

The firm has opted to bill exclusively on a time-spent basis. No success fees are charged.

The client is informed of the hourly rate applied at the very first meeting. The firm also provides, where possible, an estimate of the time likely to be spent reviewing and handling the case.

A regular statement of work

A detailed statement is provided for all work carried out on the client’s behalf. This record — commonly referred to by the English term ‘time sheet’ — is sent to the client periodically, and at their request at any stage of the case. It enables both parties to monitor the progress of invoicing with complete transparency, and to understand the exact nature of the work carried out.

National Consumer Ombudsman for the Legal Profession

In accordance with the provisions of Articles L. 152-1 et seq. of the Consumer Code, in the event of a dispute with a solicitor, the client may, free of charge, refer the matter to the Consumer Ombudsman, who is the National Ombudsman attached to the National Bar Council (CNB), whose contact details are as follows: Consumer Ombudsman for the legal profession, Ms Sandra Werey, a lawyer at the Strasbourg Bar.
